Q.. Can I use my laptop for dial-up service anywhere besides my home?

A... Yes, you certainly can. There are dozens of POP sites right across Canada PLUS now you can also connect to our Internet service when you travel to many parts of the States. Check our Service availability page for the connection numbers when you travel.

Q.. Can I use my current modem/router on the MapleLeaf CA DSL service?

A... Yes, we do not require you to buy equipment from us. However, we do suggest that you check the technology and performance of the equipment you own or intend to buy elsewhere. Our equipment contains the latest in technology and will work to the best performance possible on our service.

Q.. Can I get a Long Distance package from you even though I'm not on your Internet service?

A.. Yes, any phone subscriber in Canada can sign for our Long Distance without being on any of our other great services.

Q.. You are a new company. Can I trust you for customer and technical support?

A.. Our partner for services is SecureNet. They have a 12 year history as one of the top ISPs in Canada holding a number of key National company and Federal Government contracts. SecureNet has it's own call center with highly trained staff.

Q.. Can I sign-up as a rep under a business name?

A.. Yes. Put your business name in the first name field and your full name in the second name field. You will need to send in your business tax number and other requested documentation. For more details, check carefully Sections 2.6 & 2.7 in our Policy & Procedures.

Q.. Do I have to sign a contract to get your services?

A.. No. There are no contracts to sign plus all of our services carry a ten day, no hassle money back guarantee.

Q.. When I sign-up as a rep, do I get tax breaks?

A.. You most certainly do. You now own a home business and there are a number of tax breaks available to you. Make sure that you talk to a tax specialist in order to get the most benefit, plus keep accurate records and all your receipts.

Q.. May I advertise on search engines on the Net?

A.. You are basically permitted to promote your business wherever you want. However, I would suggest you review carefully Section 6 of our Policy & Procedures. You must also always identify yourself as an Independent Rep (IR). If still needing additional info, contact our Director of Policy, Anne Gooch.

Q.. May I put search engine links on my own website?

A.. NO. You may advertise your site on the web and link that to your website however, you are prohibited from linking or otherwise advertising other companies' links/products on your MapleLeaf CA provided personal website. Failure to follow this rule can result in dismissal.

Q.. I am a Rep and unable, at this time, to sign for Internet service. Can I still get a MapleLeaf CA e-mail account to promote my business?

A.. Yes. Provision has been made for Reps, in your situation, to get an account. It cost just $3.00 per month and you can order by sending an e-mail to sales@mapleleafca.ca

Q.. I want to switch to your DSL service. Can I still use the modem/router I own from the previous service or do I have to buy yours?

A.. First of all, we do not make people buy our equipment to get on our service like other companies force you to do.
Second, you can use your current equipment on our service. MapleLeaf CA advises that we constantly make strides to keep our service technology on the cutting edge. The equipment you have might not be the latest technology. For example... much of the VoIP services, currently being provided in the marketplace, use the older SIP technology. Our new VoIP service, coming onstream, will use the newer IAX technology which overcomes the dropped service and sometimes lack of connection in the older SIP technology. All MapleLeaf CA products will feature the newer technology.

Q: When I travel, can I use my VoIP package?

A: You can use your package anywhere that you can make an internet connection. Just plug in your ATA or VoIP hardphone and you are all set.

Q: Can I get VoIP on a dial-up connection?

A: You can on our VoIP due to use of the new IAX2 Technology. This new technology is built into both our ATAs and VoIP hardphones. These are available in our Storefront. We strongly recommend that you equip your computer with a full duplex sound card for better VoIP audio on dial-up service.

Q. Do we need to have a VoIP phone for all the phone locations in our home? (We have 5) Or if we get only one VoIP phone, do we have to make all of our long distance phone call using that handset?

A. There is no simple answer to that one as it depends on personal circumstances. If you want to use each location in your house for VoIP, then yes you would need a VoIP phone for each location. Another way to do this and cheaper, is to buy an ATA for your MAIN location and wire that to the other extensions. You could then use regular phones, over the wired ATA, in the other locations for VoIP.

Q. What do the various minute packages mean? For example, Peach 1000. Does that mean I only get 1000 minutes of use each month?

A. Great question! Here is the way VoIP works. When you call another VoIP user, you can talk until the cows come home no matter where that other user is located. The minutes start to count when you call out to a non-VoIP user. So, your Peach 1000 package would give you 1000 minutes of calling to non-VoIP numbers.

Q. How much will I be charged for going over my the minutes in my VoIP package?

A. Currently, the overage minutes will be tied to the posted LD rates in Grapevine. That is expected to change soon to an even cheaper rate.
